I’ve been fascinated by the media coverage and hype around this new breakthrough in OpenAI called ChatGPT. However, I haven’t played with it myself until last night. I sat down to come up with an essay for this newsletter and wondered if I could just test ChatGPT and see what it’ll come up with. So here’s the prompt I used and below is the answer it came up with: [in quotes]

OK, I have to confess that the above article was 100x better than I had expected and frankly both stunning and also scary on how compelling the write-up was. It’s so so close to what I would have said about this topic.
It feels like we’ve hit an inflection point .. similar to how I felt about no-code a few years ago where it suddenly empowered millions of new ideas to come to life by lowering the barrier to code. OpenAI (and ChatGPT etc) are about to do that but for so many other creative vocations like writing and painting.
THE MAIN TAKEAWAY:
When anyone can now create content with the help of AI, we will see a Cambrian explosion of new newsletters, Twitter accounts, niche websites etc. The world of content is about to see 100x or even 1000x more noise and it’ll be hard to stand out just by consistency alone. Because AI can outcompete you in that regard. The only edge I see?
Vulnerability and authentic storytelling
The only way to stand out is by choosing to share the imperfect parts of your journey, the scary bits, the human messy parts, anecdotes you’d share with your close friends.. and build trust with your audience deeply. Which means more screenshots, more behind-the-scenes content, more building in public. It requires showing a bit more skin than normal. You have to be more vulnerable than previously. Only then, people will resonate with your content and stand by you.. otherwise your work has a great risk to be ignored like we detect and ignore automated spam calls.
